Multi-echo ultrasonic thickness gauge
The Portagauge ® 5 is a multi-echo ultrasonic thickness gauge for measuring thicknesses of various metals and hard plastics, ignoring any coating up to 20 mm thick.
The Portagauge® 5 multi-echo ultrasonic thickness gauge is a highly accurate and reliable thickness gauge for measuring the thickness of various metals and hard plastics, developed to comply with BS EN 15317:2013, the standard for ultrasonic testing, characterization and verification of ultrasonic thickness measurement equipment.
The Portagauge® 5 can ignore any coating up to 20 mm thick, allowing the actual thickness of the material to be measured.
We strive to offer instruments of the highest quality, built with materials of exceptional quality and remain competitively priced in the global market thanks to our unique R&D position.
Some of the key advantages of Portagauge® 5 over our competitors:
- It can ignore paint layers up to 20 mm thick, allowing you to read the actual thickness of the material to +/- 0.1 mm accuracy
- Units of measure available in both metric (millimeters) and imperial (inches)
- A-scan and oscilloscope trace functionality is included to help you with your measurements, observe the condition of the material and help verify the correct return-back wall echo, so you can be confident that you are measuring the correct wall thickness
- We have tried and tested a wide variety of materials, including various metals and hard plastics, and for convenience have created a built-in database in our Portagauge® 5 with sound speed data for more than 12 different materials pre-loaded into the device that also includes an option to enter custom materials
- For marine applications, it meets the requirements of the Classification Bureau for measuring equipment for marine thickness gauges and has an LCD backlight to enable work in dark areas with poor visibility
- Battery life up to 12 hours with continuous use on a standard 9V PP3 battery for easy replacement, with battery saving mode - turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity
- Technical support and advice are available throughout the life of the unit and we are here to help you with your application
We have several sensor options to meet your inspection requirements:
- Our standard 2-element 2.5 MHz sensor (model no. DE2.5-14) is our most robust and widely used sensor option for metal thickness measurements. It has a 14 mm diameter sensor surface and a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 100.0 mm.
- Our dual-element 5.0 MHz sensor (model no. DE5.0-10) is our second most popular sensor option, often used for measuring wall thicknesses of small tubes. It has a 10-mm-diameter sensor surface and can reliably measure on tubes no less than 25.0 mm (1") in diameter. It has a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 100.0 mm.
- Our 5.0 MHz Dual-Element Sensor (model no. DE5.0-6) is typically used for measuring wall thickness on your smallest pipes. It has a 6 mm diameter sensor surface and can reliably measure on pipes no less than 15.0 mm (1/2") in diameter. It has a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 50.0 mm.
- Our 2.25 MHz Dual-Element Sensor (model no. DE2.25-12) is our recommended option for measuring highly damping materials such as engineering plastics, if the above sensor options do not meet your desired application.
