The self-calibrating microprocessor-controlled room and duct air quality sensor AERASGARD~ RLQ serves to determine air quality based on a mixed gas sensor / VOC sensor (volatile organic compounds = volatile organic substances). It is applied: - for measuring air quality in offices, hotels, meeting and conference rooms, homes, business premises, restaurants and the like. - for quantitative assessment of the room air pollution load of polluted gases (cigarette smoke, body odors, respiratory air, solvent vapors, emissions of building materials and cleaning agents) - for adjustable sensitivity regarding the maximum air pollution to be expected - for usage-dependent air exchange of rooms, because only polluted air is exchanged, thus saving energy. Because air quality is assessed by human senses - especially by smell - it is by definition a subjective concept. Objective criteria of what people mean by good air quality are therefore difficult to establish because perceptions will vary from person to person. Due to its linearization and high operating temperature, the air quality sensor has low drift as well as good stability, thus automatic calibration is possible. The air quality sensor does not measure the concentration of a single gas, but measures the gas mixture, this means: the measurement of the gas concentration is not done selectively. Therefore, an outcome of the gas concentration in the unit ppm is also not possible. Detectable gases: mixed gases, vapors of alkanols, cigarette smoke, car gases, exhaled air, combustion smoke (from wood, paper, plastics). The group that can be measured via VOC detection includes alkenes, alkanes, aromatics, terpenes, halogenated hydrocarbons, esters, aldehydes and ketones. In addition, substances that occur freely, such as terpenes and isoprene. Also VOC gases from building chemicals, such as paints, adhesives or insulating materials, cleaning and polishing agents, chemicals for cleaning carpets and desks. The lifetime of the sensor depends on the load and gas concentration and is > 60 months under normal load. The new design offers the possibility to choose between three sensitivities, similar to three measuring ranges, by means of dip switches. Selectable is LOW for low, MEDIUM (default, corresponds to the version of this sensor delivered so far) for medium and HIGH for high VOC sensitivity.
