Multiple Echo Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
The Portagauge® 6 multiple echo ultrasonic thickness gauge is a highly accurate and reliable thickness gauge for measuring the thickness of various metals and hard plastics. It has been developed to comply with BS EN 15317:2013 standard, which is the standard for ultrasonic testing, characterization and verification of ultrasonic thickness measuring devices.
The Portagauge® 6 is able to ignore any coating up to 20 mm thick, allowing the actual thickness of the material to be measured.
We strive to provide the highest quality instruments, built with exceptional quality materials in the UK, and remain competitively priced worldwide due to our unique R&D position.
Some of the key advantages of the Portagauge® 6 over our competitors:
- It can ignore paint layers up to 20 mm thick, giving you the actual thickness of the material with an accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm.
- Units of measurement available in both metric (millimeters) and imperial (inches) units.
- A-scan and oscilloscope functions are included to support your measurements, observe the condition of the material and help verify the correct returning back echo to ensure you are measuring the correct wall thickness.
- Data logging - Save measurements directly to the ultrasonic thickness gauge at the touch of a button. With 4 MB of internal storage on the Portagauge® 6 thickness gauge, you can store up to 200,000 readings before the internal storage is full. Easy export/download to PC via USB.
- Minimum thickness alarm, set an accepted minimum thickness of the material under test, and the Portagauge® 6 will sound an alarm during testing when the measured thickness is lower than the minimum level entered.
- We have tested a wide variety of materials, including various metals and hard plastics, and have a built-in database in our Portagauge® 6 with speed of sound data from 14+ different materials for convenience, including an option to enter custom materials.
- For marine applications, it meets the Classification Society's requirements for marine thickness measurement equipment and has an LCD backlight to work in dark, low visibility areas.
- Battery life up to 12 hours of continuous use on a standard 9V PP3 battery for easy replacement, with battery saving mode - turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity.
- USB power connector, when connected to a power source via the USB port, the Portagauge® 6 operates on USB power, saving battery power and allowing continuous use when connected to AC power.
- Technical support and advice available throughout the life of the device and we are here to help you with your application.
We offer a wide range of dual-element sensor options, with different frequencies and sizes, and the high-temperature sensor option, so no matter the environment or application, we have an ideal sensor for your needs:
- Our standard 2.5 MHz dual-element sensor (model number DE2.5-14) is our most robust and widely used sensor option for metal thickness measurements. It has a 14 mm diameter sensor face and a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 100.0 mm.
- Our 5.0 MHz dual-element sensor (model number DE5.0-10) is our second most popular sensor option, often used for measuring wall thicknesses of small pipes. It has a 10 mm diameter sensor face and can reliably measure on pipes at least 25.0 mm (1") in diameter. It has a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 100.0 mm.
- Our 5.0 MHz dual-element sensor (model number DE5.0-6) is primarily used for measuring wall thickness on your smallest pipes. It has a 6 mm diameter sensor face and can reliably measure on pipes at least 15.0 mm (1/2") in diameter. It has a measurement range of 1.5 mm - 50.0 mm.
- Multiple echo capability
Easily measure material thickness through paint layers/coatings without removing them. The Portagauge® 6 ultrasonic thickness gauge measures through protective coatings and provides accurate and reliable thickness measurements. This helps you determine the level of corrosion or erosion without risking further corrosion damage.
